Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust's "Muestra de Saka" is a very popular line an the Nacatamale is one of 7 is this limited edition line of cigars.
The Nacatamale is a 6 x 48 parejo with filler coming from a single farm in Jalapa, Nicaragua. It uses an Ecuadorian habano wrapper and a Nicaraguan binder.
“For over a century most cigars’ entire filler recipes were comprised of just one farm’s tobacco and any complexity was introduced by extremely careful leaf processing, selection and positioning within the bunch. Whereas these days as we have hundreds of ingredients to work and blend with to create interesting and satisfying ligas. So, the challenge was to see if I could make an “old farm” style liga that could hold its own with the modern blends created today," Dunbarton founder Steve Saka said in a press release at the time of the cigar's launch.
In terms of flavor and profile, expect a highly complex medium to full body smoke that brings plenty of earthiness, some notes of of dark spice along with caramel and a sweet, rich tobacco flavor.
Each cigar comes in an individual coffin, which makes for a classy gift or just a little extra showmanship for your humidor.
Everything about the Nacatamale is top-shelf, from the prelight to the nub. The cigar is bold but with a variant of earthiness. Transitions are subtle but clearly defined. Some baker spices lay an incredible foundation while a raw cocoa stays in the finish. Unquestionably one of the best retrohales, with smoke that is thick and chewy. Aroma is amazing and construction is superb. Smokes better with a lower third, so dry boxing a hour or two serves this one well.
