TheA.J. Fernandez Last Call Habano Geniales is a small cigar with a story that actually explains its unusual proportions. Before Last Call became a production line, A.J. Fernandez kept the blend around for guests at his home in Nicaragua, particularly during late-night football games. When it was time for one final cigar, out came the Last Call. In 2016, Fernandez turned that personal smoke into the first release in his Portfolio Series, launching it exclusively in this compact4½" x 48 Geniales format.
The blend is classic Fernandez: anEcuadorian Habano Rosado wrapper surrounding Nicaraguan binder and filler tobaccos grown on A.J.'s farms. The relatively narrow 48 ring keeps the Rosado wrapper involved throughout the smoke, giving the Geniales plenty of cedar, toasted nuts and pepper before deeper notes of coffee, leather and earthy Nicaraguan tobacco begin to develop. There's enough natural sweetness to soften the edges, but this remains a flavorful, medium-to-full-bodied cigar rather than a mild short smoke.
TheGeniales is still the size that best explains what Last Call was intended to be—a serious cigar when there isn't time for a Toro. It's compact, concentrated and satisfying without requiring an hour and a half commitment.Keep a few in the humidor for the end of the evening, a cup of coffee, or any time 30–45 minutes is all you've got.
