Cameroon tobacco has a character that few other wrappers can replicate, and AJ Fernandez puts that distinction to excellent use in the New World Cameroon Doble Robusto. Introduced in 2018 as the first Cameroon-wrapped cigar in the Fernandez portfolio, this blend brings the aromatic sweetness and delicate spice of African Cameroon leaf together with the richer character of Nicaraguan tobacco grown on Fernandez's farms in Estelí. Handmade atTabacalera AJ Fernandez in Nicaragua, it is a thoughtful departure from the more forceful blends for which Fernandez is often recognized.
The5½" x 54 box-pressed Doble Robusto offers a satisfying balance between the distinctive Cameroon wrapper and its all-Nicaraguan binder and filler. The profile iswoody and earthy, with toasted nuts, warm spice and a gentle natural sweetness. Medium-bodied, the blend has enough Nicaraguan depth to remain engaging while allowing the Cameroon wrapper's more delicate qualities to remain clearly defined.
The New World Cameroon Doble Robusto deserves particular attention from smokers who appreciate the nuances of African wrapper tobacco. Its generous proportions and measured strength make it an excellent choice for an unhurried afternoon or evening smoke.Add a few to your humidor and discover a more restrained, aromatic side of AJ Fernandez's blending talent. This is a cigar worth revisiting, especially for those who believe the wrapper should contribute more than color.
