TheAmar by A.J. Fernandez Torito tells a story rarely captured so personally in a cigar. Conceived after the 2025 fire that severely damaged A.J. Fernandez's main Estelí factory, Amar became Fernandez's expression of gratitude toward the employees, friends, retailers, and cigar smokers who rallied around his company. Its name bridges his heritage—amar, “to love” in Spanish, while the Arabic meaning references the “moon”—and even the lunar imagery incorporated into the band speaks to transition and renewal. Production takes place at Fernandez'sSan Lotano factory in Ocotál, making this a cigar born from adversity but firmly grounded in the tobacco tradition that built the A.J. Fernandez name.
The6½" x 50 Torito may be the connoisseur's size in the collection. Amar is an entirely Nicaraguan composition, combining a proprietaryNicaraguan Habano wrapper with Nicaraguan binder and filler tobaccos. At 50 ring gauge, the Torito places the wrapper in particularly favorable proportion to the interior blend, while its additional length gives the tobacco time to evolve. Earth and seasoned wood establish the foundation, joined by pepper, warm spice and restrained sweetness, with touches of citrus bringing brightness as the cigar progresses. It's unmistakably Nicaraguan, but there's considerably more nuance here than simple power.
For smokers who know A.J. Fernandez primarily through his bigger, darker expressions, the Amar Torito reveals another side of his blending. It has structure and authority, certainly, but also restraint. The6½" x 50 dimensions give you enough time—and enough wrapper influence—to appreciate that distinction. This is the Amar I'd reach for when the intention is to understand the blend rather than simply smoke it.
