TheCaldwell Blind Man's Bluff Connecticut Magnum takes one of Robert Caldwell's early boundary-crossing projects and gives it a substantial 60-ring presentation. Blind Man's Bluff first appeared in 2015 as Caldwell Cigar Co.'s move into Honduran production, a departure from the Dominican-made cigars upon which the young company had established its reputation. Produced through Caldwell's relationship with Davidoff at the Honduran operation associated with Camacho, Blind Man's Bluff gave Caldwell access to a different tobacco tradition and became an important early expansion of the brand. The Connecticut version followed, replacing the original blend's Ecuadorian Habano wrapper withEcuadorian Connecticut Shade while maintaining its Honduran-Dominican foundation.
The golden wrapper surrounds aHonduran binder and Dominican and Honduran fillers, with San Vicente tobacco providing an important part of the Dominican component. Caldwell describes the profile around vanilla, cedar and pepper. In practice, the appeal is the contrast between the wrapper's creamy, aromatic character and the earthier, spicier tobacco underneath—making Blind Man's Bluff Connecticut considerably more interesting than its pale appearance might initially suggest.
At6" x 60, the Magnum shifts that balance toward the interior blend. There's proportionally more filler tobacco burning alongside the wrapper, producing a broad volume of smoke and bringing roasted nuts, earth and toasted tobacco further forward while Connecticut Shade keeps the edges smooth. For the large-ring smoker, this is the most expansive Blind Man's Bluff Connecticut:less about delicacy than the smaller Robusto and more about showing how much Honduran and Dominican character can sit underneath a Connecticut wrapper without overwhelming it.
