TheCaldwell Blind Man's Bluff Connecticut Robusto comes from an important chapter in the early history of Caldwell Cigar Co. When Robert Caldwell launched his company in 2014, his best-known cigars were being made in the Dominican Republic. Blind Man's Bluff changed that. Developed through Caldwell's relationship with Davidoff and produced in Honduras at the factory long associated with Camacho, it became Caldwell's first major Central American project. The Connecticut followed the original Habano-wrapped Blind Man's Bluff, taking the same basic Honduran-Dominican idea and giving it an entirely different personality through a silky Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade wrapper.
Beneath that wrapper is aHonduran binder with Dominican and Honduran fillers, including San Vicente tobacco from the Dominican Republic. Caldwell's current description calls out vanilla, cedar and pepper, and that combination nicely explains why this isn't the stereotypical one-dimensional Connecticut. Cream and aromatic cedar lead, followed by toasted nuts, earth and enough pepper from the darker tobaccos underneath to keep the cigar interesting.
At5" x 50, the Robusto is arguably where that contrast is most apparent. The compact dimensions keep plenty of wrapper involved while bringing the richer interior tobaccos into the conversation quickly. Smooth enough for a morning cigar but substantial enough for an experienced smoker, the Robusto illustrates something Caldwell has always done well:take a familiar cigar style and make it just unconventional enough to deserve another look.
