The original Last Tsar disappeared after the devastating fire at Tabacalera William Ventura, and El Olvidado isn't an attempt to recreate that cigar leaf for leaf. Instead, Caldwell uses the Crafted & Curated series to reinterpret its character with an unusualArapiraca-Connecticut hybrid Oscuro wrapper known as Aracon Oscuro, a Sumatra binder, and fillers from the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua and United States.
At6" x 54, El Olvidado has the proportions to carry a darker blend without becoming ponderous. The Oscuro wrapper brings deep earth, cocoa and cedar, with the Sumatra binder adding aromatic spice and the multinational filler providing additional weight and complexity. Expect roasted coffee, dark wood and pepper alongside a measured natural sweetness that keeps the profile from becoming too heavy. It's a medium-to-full cigar with plenty of depth, but the real attraction is the interplay between that unusual hybrid wrapper and the tobaccos underneath.
