TheDon Pepin Garcia Vegas Cubanas Toro Gordo reaches back to a formative period in José “Pepín” García's career. Vegas Cubanas was one of the cigars that helped establish his reputation before My Father became the powerhouse it is today, originally produced at his small El Rey de los Habanos factory in Miami's Little Havana. Now handcrafted at the García family'sMy Father Cigars factory in Estelí, Nicaragua, the Green Label Vegas Cubanas preserves that earlier style while benefiting from the family's extraordinary control over its own Nicaraguan tobacco.
At6" x 60, the Toro Gordo is the largest expression of this Nicaraguan puro. Its reddishNicaraguan Corojo Rosado wrapper surrounds Nicaraguan binder and long-fillers sourced from García family farms. The substantial 60-ring format gives the interior tobaccos a broader voice than the Corona or Invictos, building around earth, cedar and toasted tobacco with pepper, leather and underlying sweetness providing contrast. Despite its dimensions, Vegas Cubanas isn't intended to be one of Pepín's powerhouse blends. The character is more measured, allowing the richness and spice of the tobacco to come through without overwhelming the palate.
For smokers who enjoy large-ring cigars but still want unmistakable García character, the Toro Gordo makes considerable sense.
