The first Nicaraguan puro from well known cigar maker Ernesto Perez Carrillo might be the cigar that generates the most fame. E.P. Carrillo's Encore Majestic robusto is 2018's cigar of the year, per the folks at Cigar Aficionado.
The Encore Majestic is manufactured in the Dominican Republic but the 5 3/8" x 52 robusto features Nicaraguan filler tobacco, a Nicaraguan binder and a wrapper from Nicaragua as well. The cigar's filler tobacco features leaf from all three Nicaragua's most common tobacco regions - Esteli, Jalapa and Condega.
In terms of tasting notes, we pick up oak and some sweetness that hints at caramel with some citrus notes that seem to suggest orange. When we're able to get these cigars in-stock, we have them in complete boxes of 10 but also try to offer them as singles. As you've probably seen, cigars crowned "cigar of the year" tend to be tough to find!
