TheLa Aroma de Cuba Mi Amor Belicoso isn't simply another size in the Mi Amor portfolio—it's the vitola that helped establish the blend as a modern classic. Created for Ashton by José “Pepín” García and the García family atMy Father Cigars in Nicaragua, Mi Amor broke new ground as Ashton's first cigar built around a Mexican wrapper. Its dark, Cuban-seed leaf is grown in Mexico's celebratedSan Andrés Valley and paired with Nicaraguan tobaccos grown by the Garcías themselves, including the double-binder construction that reflects the family's Cuban cigar-making tradition.
The5½" x 54 box-pressed Belicoso puts that combination into a particularly expressive figurado. The tapered head concentrates the smoke and brings the blend into sharper focus, allowing the earthy richness and natural sweetness of the San Andrés wrapper to play against the strength and spice of its Nicaraguan core. Dark chocolate, espresso and almond sit at the center of the profile, accompanied by black pepper and an intriguing underlying sweetness that can suggest coconut and malted chocolate. Medium-to-full in character, the Belicoso has plenty of authority, but its reputation has always rested more on richness and balance than raw strength.
And few cigars have demonstrated that reputation as convincingly over time.Cigar Aficionado awarded the Mi Amor Belicoso 95 points and named it the No. 2 Cigar of 2011. Twelve years later, the same vitola again earned 95 points and returned to the Top 25 as the No. 9 Cigar of 2023. That kind of longevity matters.
