TheLa Aroma de Cuba Mi Amor Duque takes the celebrated Mi Amor blend and gives it a broader, more concentrated presentation. Developed for Ashton by José “Pepín” García and the García family, Mi Amor was an important cigar in the evolution of La Aroma de Cuba, introducing a darkMexican San Andrés wrapper to a blend of aged Nicaraguan tobaccos. Handcrafted in Nicaragua, it has become one of the enduring benchmarks for San Andrés-wrapped cigars—a blend that marries the earthy sweetness of Mexican tobacco with the spice and structure that have long defined the García family's work.
At5¼" x 56, the softly box-pressed Duque puts considerably more Nicaraguan tobacco behind that San Andrés wrapper than the narrower Mi Amor formats. The result is broad and richly textured, with dark chocolate, espresso and almond layered over earth and toasted tobacco, while cracked black pepper provides the familiar García edge. The San Andrés leaf brings an underlying sweetness that keeps all that darker character in balance. The generous 56 ring gauge gives the smoke a rounder, fuller quality without pushing Mi Amor beyond its medium-to-full-bodied character.
The Duque has also proven that the Mi Amor reputation isn't built solely on the famous Belicoso and Magnifico.Cigar Aficionado awarded this exact vitola 95 points in 2023, praising its combination of toasted coconut, honey and cinnamon with touches of cocoa and a sweet-and-savory finish. That's meaningful recognition for a cigar that had already been in production for years. For the aficionado who enjoys Mi Amor but wants the blend with greater breadth and a little more emphasis on its Nicaraguan core, the5¼ x 56 Duque may be one of the most satisfying sizes in the entire family.
