TheMy Father La Gran Oferta Lancero is the La Gran Oferta I'd point an experienced cigar smoker toward first. Not because it's the largest or strongest—it is neither—but because the traditional Lancero proportions leave very little between the smoker and the tobacco. The blend is handcrafted at the García family'sMy Father Cigars S.A. factory in Estelí, combining their own Nicaraguan Cuban-seed binder and Habano-Criollo filler tobaccos with a lustrousEcuadorian Habano Rosado wrapper. In a cigar this slender, that wrapper becomes much more than the finishing leaf; it becomes one of the principal components of the experience.
At7½" x 38, wrapper-to-filler ratio changes dramatically. The Rosado's aromatic spice, sweetness and pepper move forward while the Nicaraguan core provides a narrower but clearly defined foundation of cedar, earth, coffee and dark chocolate. The profile can feel brighter and more articulate than the heavier La Gran Oferta sizes, with the slender format making subtle transitions easier to recognize. There's still plenty of Pepín García's signature pepper, but here it shares the stage with sweetness and aroma rather than dominating it.
A Lancero also asks something of the smoker. It wants to be smoked slowly; rush it and the slender tobacco column can become hot and obscure precisely the nuances that make the format worthwhile.
