The tobacco, however, comes directly from the modern García playbook: an oilyEcuadorian Habano Rosado wrapper surrounding Nicaraguan Cuban-seed binder and long-fillers cultivated on the family's own farms, all handcrafted atMy Father Cigars S.A. in Estelí.
The6⅛" x 52 Torpedo is especially interesting because the tapered head allows the smoker some control over the experience. A conservative cut concentrates the smoke and emphasizes the Rosado wrapper's pepper, aromatic spice and sweetness; opening the head farther broadens the draw and gives more room to the Nicaraguan interior. Cedar, dark chocolate and earth form the core, accompanied by black pepper, roasted nuts and a lingering caramel-like sweetness. It's unmistakably My Father, but the profile is composed enough that the figurado shape reveals nuance rather than simply concentrating strength.
A well-made Torpedo should offer something beyond appearance, and La Gran Oferta does. The format invites a little participation from the smoker and exposes how carefully the García family balanced the wrapper against its Nicaraguan core.
