That 48 ring gauge matters. TheRosado Oscuro wrapper has a stronger voice here, bringing aromatic spice and subtle sweetness into sharper relief against the earth, cedar and pepper of the Nicaraguan interior. Roasted coffee, leather and warm spice emerge as the cigar settles, but the narrower proportions preserve definition between those flavors rather than blending everything into sheer richness. It's an assertive cigar, certainly, but one with the precision and balance that separate mature Nicaraguan tobacco from simple strength.
Among the La Promesa vitolas, the Corona Gorda is an especially compelling choice for the experienced smoker. It isn't the largest or most imposing cigar in the box, nor does it need to be. Its appeal lies in proportion—a traditional5½ x 48 format that allows excellent wrapper leaf and García-grown Nicaraguan tobaccoto speak with equal clarity. Sometimes reducing the ring gauge doesn't give you less cigar; it gives you more of what matters.

It provides enough length for the blend to evolve and a 52 ring gauge that keeps wrapper and filler in proper conversation. More importantly, it's a cigar that explains My Father particularly well—Cuban cigar-making tradition interpreted through exceptional Nicaraguan tobacco by a family that quite literally built its future around keeping a promise.
