My Father La Promesa Toro (6" x 52)

TheMy Father La Promesa Toro is perhaps the most complete expression of a cigar built around José “Pepín” García's extraordinary journey from Cuba to Nicaragua. When García left Cuba in 2001, he promised the family remaining behind that he would make something of himself while honoring the cigar-making tradition they shared. The farms, factories and international reputation that followed ultimately became the fulfillment of that promise. Handcrafted atMy Father Cigars in Estelí, La Promesa combines Nicaraguan binder and long-fillers from García family farms beneath a dark, lustrousEcuadorian Habano Rosado Oscuro wrapper.

The classic6" x 52 Toro gives those tobaccos unusually good proportions. There's enough filler to display the richness of García-grown Nicaraguan leaf while maintaining a meaningful contribution from the wrapper. The opening carries the pepper and cedar aficionados immediately associate with My Father, but patience reveals considerably more: roasted coffee, leather, earth and warm spice accompanied by a restrained natural sweetness. The strength is unmistakably Nicaraguan, yet the Rosado Oscuro wrapper gives the cigar polish and aromatic complexity rather than allowing power to dominate.

For someone trying La Promesa for the first time, the Toro would be difficult to argue against. It provides enough length for the blend to evolve and a 52 ring gauge that keeps wrapper and filler in proper conversation. More importantly, it's a cigar that explains My Father particularly well—Cuban cigar-making tradition interpreted through exceptional Nicaraguan tobacco by a family that quite literally built its future around keeping a promise.
